Dr.
Lynn Winstead Mabe has been a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for over 16
years. She has specialized in working with law enforcement officers and their families for over 10 years.
She began her practice, Law Enforcement Counseling Services, to assist police officers and their families with low-cost,
confidential counseling. She specializes in dealing with the specific and unique issues that can be a product
of a career in law enforcement.
Dr. Mabe worked for the Dallas Police Department before she resigned
to pursue her Doctorate Degree in counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce. She won the Distinguished
Dissertation Award for her doctoral research on communication issues in law enforcement marriages. She
is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the American Counseling Association, the Texas Counseling
Association, the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, the American Psychological Association, the Association
of Traumatic Stress Society, The Center for Law Enforcement Ethics, and is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Experts in
Traumatic Stress. Dr. Mabe does workshops and presentations for counselors across the state to educate
and train them in some of the specific issues related to counseling with law enforcement officers and their families.
She also does presentations and seminars for law enforcement groups and agencies, such as The Institute for Law Enforcement
Administration and the Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators. Dr. Mabe is also a professor at The University
of Texas at Dallas, and is currently doing a follow-up study regarding marriage and communication issues with The Dallas Police
Department.
